The wife of Osun State Governor Mrs Titilola Adeleke has emphasized the need for proper breastfeeding for infants, saying it is an important act of nurturing a new life with love and care.
She made this known at an event to mark the 2023 World Breastfeeding Week which she considered a very important event for all.
She observed that the World Breastfeeding Week observed annually in the first week of August is a global campaign to raise awareness and cause to take action on the themes related to breastfeeding.
Speaking on how breastfeeding can be easy for every woman wherever they work, Mrs Adeleke said the breastfeeding week should afford every mother the opportunity to champion best practices for workplace related support particularly in Osun State.
She noted that many work related variables such as full time maternal employment, rigid work schedules and lack of lactation rooms has created significant barriers to working mothers’ nursing practices.
She therefore called on nursing mothers to partronise the (Moremi Creche) being run by the Ministry of Women, Children and Social Affairs within the Secretariat to enhance effective breastfeeding of their infants while at work.
Earlier in her welcome address, Commissioner for Women Children and Social affairs, Mrs Ayobola Awolowo urged women to always take good care of themselves and create time to rest.
She applauded the Wife of the Governor for her support concerning issues relating to women and children living.
In her own remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Women, Children and Social Affairs Mrs Modupe Irelewuyi charged women across the State to pay close attention to children especially during the ongoing holiday period.
