No fewer than 20 persons have died while seven sustained injuries in road crashes in Bauchi State.

Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Yusuf Abdullahi, confirmed the crashes, which happened on Sunday night.

He blamed speeding for the accidents, adding that the first crash involved two vehicles, an 18-seater Toyota Hummer bus, and a truck, at Bambal village on Kano-Jama’are Highway.

The second crash, Abdullahi said, happened at 6.30pm at Duhuwar Kura village, along Azare-Zaki Road, killing four passengers and injuring seven others.

He stated that the crash involved a Volkswagen Golf car and a motorcycle, adding that it was also caused by speed violation and overloading. “The problem is speed; they don’t drive within the approved speed limits. It is very unfortunate. The crashes were caused by speed violation.”

He said the victims were rushed to Federal Medical Centre, Azare, where a medical doctor confirmed 20 dead.
