Super Eagles Team ’94
Thirty ome years after winning the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations in Tunisia, the Federal Government has moved to fulfil its pledge of house allocations to members of that Super Eagles victory team.
The government, on Wednesday 25th June 2025, through a statement on the website of the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, said the houses are now being allocated.
In a brief ceremony, former striker Efangwu Goziem Ekoku (one of the beneficiaries) represented by his niece Lisa Jenifer Nwagbogun, was presented with an allocation letter for a house in Abuja.
Pemi Temitope, Director/HOD Public Building and Housing Development, presented the letter on behalf of the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Architect Ahmed Musa Dangiwa.
Temitope described the move as part of government’s commitment to reward the patriotic service of the team, which brought honour to Nigeria 31 years ago.
The houses are being allocated to members of the team in various states while some are receiving theirs in Abuja.
Members of the team included the departed Rasheed Yekini, former Super Eagles coaches, Augustine Eguavoen and Emmanuel Amunike.
The Military Government of the departed Gen Sani Abacha had made the promise to all the Super Eagles, then captained by the departed Stephen Keshi.
Former President Muhammadu Buhari had in March 2022, promised redeeming the promise to the team.
While commissioning the Housing Project under the National Housing Programme (NHP) Phase 1 in Abere, Osun State, President Buhari, who was represented by his Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, had said houses were then available for the players to pick from.
